Independent developer juicce has officially revealed Brokensides, an upcoming psychological horror beat 'em up game. Set in a bizarre, surreal universe, the title puts players in the role of an aggressive sea bunny who has recently been released from prison after committing an act known as a "Cardinal Crime."
The game features a distinct visual presentation that combines elements of classic wireframe 3D, intentionally misrendered models, unusual color palettes, and ASCII art. This combination creates a barren and open environment populated by strange 2D non-playable characters that interact with the player as they navigate through the desolate terrain. The game also allows players to pose or sit down anywhere across the open world during exploration.
Combat in Brokensides leans heavily into street-style fighting mechanics reminiscent of titles like Absolver. The action places a strong emphasis on close-quarters grappling and impact, allowing players to execute heavy maneuvers such as dropkicks and suplexes against opponents. Enemies are designed with glass bodies that shatter into arrays of crystalline fragments when struck with well-timed blows.
The developer was previously responsible for FUNKYHEART, another release known for its unconventional design and surreal atmosphere. Brokensides continues this trend of experimental art styles and mechanics.
At present, Brokensides has only received an initial reveal trailer alongside its official Steam store page listing. The project is still early in development, and no release date or target launch window has been announced.
