Independent video game developer NasNakarus has unveiled a novel simulation title that challenges players to literally locate a single needle buried within a massive pile of five million pieces of hay.
The project became a massive social media sensation following the release of its initial announcement trailer over the weekend. Posted on X, the short video rapidly accumulated more than 46 million views, alongside roughly 189,000 likes, 10,000 reposts, and 3,000 comments as gamers reacted to the absurd premise.
According to NasNakarus, the goal behind the experience is to test the ultimate limits of meditative and repetitive gameplay loops. To make the overwhelming task slightly more manageable, the developer confirmed that players will be equipped with a variety of utility items, including a shovel, a basket, and a leaf blower to blast away excess straw.
In addition to solo play, the creator teased several incoming features in comment replies, most notably a dedicated multiplayer mode. This co-op feature will allow groups of friends to collaborate on the tedious search together. A Steam store page for the game is expected to launch soon, though the developer humorously admitted that even they have yet to find the needle during playtesting.
The game's rapid surge in popularity fits into a broader movement within the gaming industry, where small-budget indie projects are frequently going viral and attracting huge player bases overnight. Recent breakthrough titles such as Peak, Schedule 1, and How to Fish—which recently hit a record peak of nearly 270,000 concurrent players—highlight a growing demand for quirky, low-stakes experiences.
With minimal pressure and high potential for comedy, the upcoming title is positioned to capitalize on the ongoing popularity of cooperative "friendslop" games. Players seeking a relaxing yet bizarre challenge will soon be able to add the project to their Steam wishlists.
