PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba has suggested he wants to develop the Bayonetta franchise further, though he stopped short of confirming a new game.
Inaba made the comments during a conversation with Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae at Tokyo Game Show, where the two discussed a crossover bringing four Bayonetta-themed costumes to Stellar Blade Complete Edition on Switch 2 this November. When asked about the series' future, Inaba told the publication to wait and see but offered no concrete details.
Kim, who directed Stellar Blade, expressed his admiration for the franchise, describing Bayonetta as essential to his life and naming it among his three favourite games. He revealed he had to restrain himself while designing a Bayonetta-inspired "Black Dress" costume to avoid taking the concept too far, and jokingly asked if he could design characters for the next instalment.
Inaba's optimism marks a shift from recent setbacks. Series creator Hideki Kamiya departed PlatinumGames in October 2023, stating he had envisioned Bayonetta as a nine-part saga he may now take to the grave. Bayonetta 3 director Yusuke Miyata has also since left the studio. Additionally, the series lost its Japanese voice actress Atsuko Tanaka in August 2024 at age 61, meaning any future entry would require recasting the iconic role.
