Jagex is introducing RuneScape Reignited, a new permanent character type designed to give long-time, lapsed, and new players a fresh start in the MMO. The feature launches on 2 December alongside other major updates.
Reignited characters will operate within the same worlds as existing players but feature a completely separate economy and hiscores with no paid progression options available. All new Reignited characters will receive complimentary access to members' content for the first 10 days following launch. The developer described the initiative as giving players who felt lost or overwhelmed by RuneScape's depth a genuine opportunity to return or begin their journey anew.
Jagex emphasized that Reignited characters will be fully integrated into the game world. Like Ironman players today, Reignited characters will share spaces with existing players throughout Gielinor, the game's main world. New players will be able to experience 25 years of RuneScape content from a unified starting point, while established players can watch their worlds become more populated and help the community expand.
The Reignited launch coincides with the arrival of The Adventure Guide and the next phase of RuneScape's remastering effort, all releasing in a single update on 2 December.
The announcement came during RuneFest 2026, where Jagex also revealed a fourth MMO in the RuneScape franchise built using Unreal Engine. Additionally, the studio confirmed plans for a new RuneScape animated series developed in partnership with content creator Charlie "MoistCr1TiKaL" White.
