A new officially licensed manga spinoff based on Magic: The Gathering is arriving in a matter of weeks. Titled Destroy All Humans: They Can't Be Regenerated: Time Shift, the short-form series is scheduled to launch on October 26. The upcoming project builds upon the established universe of the original manga while jumping forward to explore a more recent era in the long-running trading card game's history.
According to details shared online by anime industry tracking account MangaMoguraRE, Time Shift picks up ten years after the events of the primary manga, Destroy All Humans: They Can't Be Regenerated. The plot centers on Yakumo Suwabara, a former competitive player featured as a secondary character in the parent story, who crosses paths with a promising newcomer entering the local card game scene.
Unlike the initial series, which enjoyed an extended run, this new continuation is designed as a brief limited run containing only four chapters. While the original manga immersed readers in the nostalgic early days of tabletop play during the late 1990s, Time Shift examines how the game and its competitive culture have evolved over the subsequent decade.
International fans may have to exercise patience before reading the new chapters. No simultaneous English localization has been announced alongside the initial release, and previous translations of Magic: The Gathering manga titles have historically taken several years to receive official English editions in Western regions.
The manga continuation represents just one of several media adaptations planned for the franchise as it continues its fourth decade. Alongside traditional lore books and comic adaptations of the game's fantasy planes, work continues on an upcoming live-action film project. Additionally, the physical card game is set to expand with major crossover sets, including a Star Trek entry in the Universes Beyond line arriving in 2026.
