Minecraft continues to expand its massive global audience, attracting more than 300,000 new players every day despite being on the market for over 17 years.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared the impressive daily onboarding figures while reflecting on the franchise's enduring popularity. Total lifetime sales for the sandbox title have now surpassed 425 million copies, making it one of the best-selling video games in history. Sharma emphasized that the title continues to draw in fresh audiences alongside seasoned players.
The player milestones were shared alongside several major announcements from the latest Minecraft Live event. Among the highlights was the reveal of Minecraft Dungeons II, new creation tools for builders, and the introduction of the game's first brand-new dimension in over 14 years.
Mojang Studios also detailed upcoming hardware support, confirming that Minecraft is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27th. Existing players who own the game on the original Nintendo Switch will be able to upgrade to the new version, though the transition will require a paid upgrade fee rather than a free patch.
Paid next-generation upgrades have become standard for several titles transitioning to Nintendo's new console, including first-party releases like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime 4. The updates come during a transitional period for Xbox, as parent company Microsoft continues to adjust operations across its entire gaming software division.
