Grand Theft Auto 6 introduces a criminal profile system that fundamentally changes how the game tracks player behavior during missions. Rather than a traditional morality meter, the system measures how efficiently and professionally the two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, conduct their criminal activities.
Unlike the honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2, which judges moral choices, GTA 6's criminal profile focuses purely on criminal methodology. The distinction is crucial: there is no path to redemption through good deeds. Players cannot offset a violent heist by helping strangers. Instead, the system evaluates whether crimes are executed cleanly or devolve into chaos. A professional robbery completed without casualties or collateral damage differs fundamentally from the same robbery turned into a massacre.

The Four Criminal States
The criminal profile operates through four distinct states, each representing an escalating level of criminal behavior.
Professional represents the most controlled approach. Players who maintain this state complete objectives through restraint and intimidation rather than unnecessary violence. The goal is accomplishing the job with minimal casualties and chaos.
Aggressive marks the point where players begin using force unnecessarily. While still capable of controlling situations, characters in this state resort to violence when calmer alternatives exist. The transition from Professional to Aggressive occurs when players repeatedly choose physical force as their first option.
Violent emerges when excessive force becomes routine. Killing non-essential targets and escalating encounters for destruction pushes characters into this state. Given GTA 6's enhanced gore and dismemberment systems, turning robberies into massacres carries serious consequences.
Psycho represents the extreme end, reached through consistent excessive violence and chaotic behavior. Actions far beyond mission requirements—such as mass killings or indiscriminate vehicle attacks—lead to this state.
Beyond these four states exists a fifth condition: a Shattered or Broken state that becomes irreversible for that playthrough. Rockstar has emphasized that actions carry weight, and some consequences cannot be undone through subsequent good behavior.
Separate Profiles for Each Character
A significant feature of the system is that Jason and Lucia maintain independent criminal profiles. Players can develop one character as a disciplined professional while the other pursues a violent reputation, or any combination in between. This separation allows the narrative to branch based on each character's individual approach to crime. Jason's background as a trained military veteran and Lucia's fighter identity may naturally suit different criminal styles, and the game's story adjusts accordingly based on these diverging profiles.
