Castlevania: Belmont's Curse rewards exploration with a massive arsenal of 28 weapons spread across seven distinct categories, each offering unique movesets and combat styles. Tracking down every weapon requires navigating hidden areas, solving puzzles, and defeating specific bosses throughout the game's interconnected map. This guide covers the location and acquisition method for every weapon in the game.
Swords
The sword category serves as the foundation of Rose's combat options. The Longsword is your starting weapon and requires no effort to obtain—it's simply equipped from the beginning of your journey. To acquire the Bastard Sword, travel to the Justice District Sewers section of Paris Streets, located down and to the right of the View of Paris landmark. You'll need to use the Holy Light ability to unlock the chest containing this weapon.
The Joyeuse, a harder-to-find option, awaits in the Path of the Penitent within Notre Dame. Reaching it demands completing a platforming sequence that involves hitting a switch, navigating through laser traps, and using the Smash ability to reach the chest. For the most powerful sword in the game, the Valmanway, you must complete The Judge tarot card quest. This requires visiting the Palace of Justice in Paris Streets and weighing yourself on a scale after collecting four hearts worth of health and mana upgrades. Successfully completing this will grant you the Valmanway.
Swords and Shields
Combined sword and shield weapons offer enhanced defensive capabilities alongside offensive power. The Rusted Harpe and Aegis combination becomes available after defeating The Prophetess, Medusa, in the Serpent's Lair of the Holy Innocents' Cemetery. The Fleuret and Tower Shield can be found in the Library's Condemned Shelves area on the right side of the map. Navigate to this location, jump on the lower four stars of the planet to create a jump point, and complete the resulting platforming challenge to reach the chest.
The Abondight and Lancelot's Shield are located in the Tower Entrance area of Notre Dame on the left side of the overall map. Reaching this weapon requires climbing upward and finding the correct angle to smash through the floor to access the chest below. Alucard's Sword and Shield represent a more complex unlock that pays tribute to one of the series' most beloved characters and requires a separate guide to obtain, as the acquisition process involves more intricate steps than standard weapon collection.
Spears
Spear weapons provide extended reach and distinct combat advantages. The Lance, a starting spear option, can be easily obtained early in the game by visiting the Fountain of Innocents in the Holy Innocents' Cemetery and retrieving it from a chest atop the building. This weapon proves essential for the boss battle that follows its acquisition. The Halberd requires traveling to the Mechanic's Ascent area of the Clock Tower on the left side of the map and completing a demanding platforming gauntlet to reach the chest.
The Gungnir spear is located in the Collapsed Path of Orpheus within the Catacombs of Paris. Access this area by smashing downward from the skull waterfall that flows with blood. For the legendary Chauve-Souris spear, you must defeat Isaac in the Clock Tower's Heart of the Clock room. Reaching Isaac requires using Death's Arcana, specifically the Soul Harvest ability, on the cursed clock that leads toward the Bad ending, then navigating through the subsequent area. Upon Isaac's defeat, he drops the Chauve-Souris for you to collect.
Cestus and Knuckle Weapons
Cestus weapons—powerful hand-based armaments—begin with the basic Cestus, found in the Sewer Reservoir area of Paris Streets. As an early-game unlock, this weapon is relatively easy to locate while mapping out the initial areas. The Jewel Knuckles are located in the Main Hall's Old Gallery area on the right side of the map. To reach this location, clear the platforming gauntlet accessible through one of the glowing red doors in the Main Hall, then follow the path by hitting switches until you reach the Old Gallery.
The Fists of Talos are unlocked by defeating The Builder, who can be found by solving a puzzle in the Eastern Access Shaft of the Clock Tower. After solving the puzzle and reaching The Builder, defeat this boss to claim the weapon. Bernhard's Wrath, the most powerful cestus in the game, is found in the Hall of Mirrors' Levil Deviled room, accessible through The Sage's Tarot card quest. Late in this area, you'll discover a room displaying the red gloves. Interacting with them spawns a group of enemies that must be defeated to unlock the weapon. It's advisable to clear the Hall of Mirrors before attempting this unlock, as the map remains hidden until you do.
Greatswords
Greatswords represent some of the most powerful single-handed weapons available. The Burnt Sword of Fierbois is an early-game standout obtained by defeating The Warrior at the very top of the Prison Tower in Paris Streets. Once defeated, you receive this weapon as a reward. The Claymore can be found by traveling through the Path of the First area near the top of the Clock Tower on the upper right side. Upon arrival, head through the gauntlet on the right side instead of going left to locate the chest.
The Durandal, a masterpiece greatsword, is located in the Library's Curiosity Cabinet area on the right side of the map. Upon reaching this room, jump on the right planets to open an upward path, then use the jump point to enter a hidden room in the ceiling. Complete the simple platforming challenge inside to reach the chest. Excalibur, a legendary weapon, requires minimal effort to obtain—it's a reward for completing The Brittle King tarot card. This involves traveling to Notre Dame's Chapel room on the right side and pulling a sword from a stone by interacting with it while equipped with the Fist of Talos. You then face a relatively easy boss fight against the Brittle King, earning Excalibur upon victory.
Twin Swords
Twin sword weapons offer dual-wielding combat options with varied movesets. The Pair of Longswords can be found in the Catacombs of Paris, specifically in the Chamber of Whispers area. Look for Death's green symbol on the wall as you enter, then break the wall on the left to create a path leading to the chest. The Rapiers are among the most annoying weapons to acquire in the game, located in the Main Hall's Watch Tower at the top left of the map. Upon reaching this area, stick to the left side to find a lever that activates a gate on the right. You must reach the other side before the gate closes—the timing is extremely tight, and using the Aerial Dash ability while skipping some paintings can help shave crucial seconds off your run.
Almace and Hauteclaire require first reaching the Cemetery Entrance area in the Holy Innocents' Cemetery near the start of that zone. Head left until you reach a tower, climb it, and use Smash on the platform below to access the Flooded Crypt. This opens a path eventually leading to the chest containing these weapons on the left side. War and Famine, the legendary twin sword weapon, are found in Notre Dame's Great Organ Room. On the left side of the room, a plaque hints that something hides under the stairs. Performing a specific melody on the organ reveals War and Famine. The correct key sequence is:
- 8, 9, 10, 13, 12, 6, 7, 5, 4, 1
Once you've played this sequence, the staircase opens, granting access to War and Famine.
Whips
Whip weapons round out the arsenal with their distinctive reach and attack patterns. While Belmont's Curse makes you wait before wielding your first whip, the basic Whip is an unmissable unlock located in the Hall of Fallen Angels in the Catacombs of Paris before reaching Dracula's Castle. The Thorn Whip, a noticeable early upgrade, is found in the Library's Fine Arts Shelves and requires completing a tough platforming challenge to reach, though the effort proves worthwhile.
The Morning Star whip is accessed by traveling to the Main Hall's Wine Cellar and heading through the nearby glowing red door. Once inside, head left to encounter one of the game's most challenging platforming gauntlets. Successfully reaching the other side puts you on a path to the chest, which is actually located in the Castle Garden. Vampire Killer, the weapon everyone wants to know about before playing, requires a separate guide to unlock due to its unique acquisition process distinct from standard weapon collection methods.
