Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch without microtransactions or generative AI technology, emphasizing traditional development methods for its upcoming blockbuster.
The announcements came during a panel with Kinda Funny Games ahead of an extended preview for the title. When questioned regarding in-game real-money purchases, developers stated that the base release contains no monetization features. Furthermore, the team clarified that generative AI tools were not utilized during production, addressing an ongoing debate across the interactive entertainment industry.
This development stance aligns with recent decisions by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, which shut down its dedicated AI unit and parted ways with its lead AI executive earlier this year. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously asserted that artificial intelligence lacks genuine creative capability. This approach contrasts with competitors such as Electronic Arts, Square Enix, and Krafton, which have invested heavily in automated tools for art, scripting, and localization.
While microtransactions are absent at launch, Rockstar will offer an Ultimate Edition priced at £90, compared to the £70 standard version. The premium bundle features exclusive vehicles, weapons, cosmetic items, and specialized locations such as the Stock 305 clothing store and the Electric Fang tattoo parlor. Players who purchase the base game can upgrade separately later, with bonus content unlocking progressively across the story chapters featuring protagonists Jason and Lucia.
Scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Grand Theft Auto 6 will introduce updated carjacking mechanics, a revised Wanted system, a new romance feature, and an expanded open world. Representing a massive financial investment estimated at around one billion dollars, the title leans toward heightened realism over casual arcade gameplay.
