Just over a week after its official release, action-RPG Mortal Shell 2 has received its first major content and balance update. Following a smaller patch issued on launch day, this substantial update delivers a suite of improvements aimed at refining combat mechanics, expanding itemization, and easing world traversal for players navigating its challenging dark fantasy setting.
The patch introduces several new consumable resources designed to aid survival. Players can now collect fragile tarstones, a new item variant that gradually degrades in durability before breaking apart. Similarly, newly added glimpse stones wear down as enemies are defeated, eventually shattering into valuable glimpses. The update also introduces Egon's stone, a unique item that teleports players back to a dungeon's entrance upon death at the cost of durability, while ensuring no gloom is lost when the stone breaks.
Navigation across the world map has been made more accessible thanks to additional beacons placed in the Fainweald and Mammon locations, though these travel points are only functional during daytime hours. Alongside general item redistribution and resets for previously bugged chests, players can also unlock new cosmetic options. Completing specific quest threads now rewards players with distinct headpieces, including a hand-stitched frog mask and a potato sack featuring an eyehole.
Significant attention was given to the game's defensive and counter-attack systems. Riposte damage now scales dynamically based on an enemy's total health pool, preventing high-difficulty settings such as New Game Plus and night mode from feeling overly punitive. Furthermore, recovery times after executing a riposte have been shortened so players regain character control more swiftly. The development team also resolved bugs where riposte damage applied twice or failed to trigger, while unifying invulnerability windows across all riposte animations.
To improve overall combat fairness and technical stability, the patch tones down maximum enemy tracking and attack magnetism, with further per-enemy adjustments planned for future updates. In areas densely populated with adversaries, enemy headcounts have been reduced to boost overall framerates. Additionally, the patch resolves awkward character animations during cutscenes and incorporates numerous smaller bug fixes across the game.
