Indie developer Toby Alden has released Today's Star Is, a free precision action game where players pilot a spaceship through dangerous mazes to retrieve swinging stellar payloads. The title, created by one of the developers behind Love Eternal, features daily updates with new levels.
In Today's Star Is, players control an unarmed craft using rotational thrust physics. The objective requires navigating a labyrinth lined with fatal spikes, locating a star, and using a short-range tractor beam to haul the object back out. While standard walls allow the ship to ricochet safely, hitting spiked surfaces results in immediate destruction.
The star itself introduces heavy physics hazards to the flight path. It sways like a pendulum, catches on corners, and destroys the ship if it makes direct contact. Players must balance speed and momentum, with the option to detach the tractor beam to launch the star across narrow corridors. Select areas of each level also contain aggressive chasers that awaken when entered, pursuing the ship through solid walls.
To balance the high difficulty, the game offers infinite lives, frequent checkpoints, and online leaderboards for completed attempts. The developer plans to add one new stage every day.
Today's Star Is is available for free as a browser game or as a downloadable title for Windows and Mac via Itch.io.
