Lego is expanding its collection of retro gaming console sets with an officially licensed PlayStation recreation arriving this week. The buildable set goes on sale October 1 for Lego Insiders and October 4 for general consumers through Lego.com.
The set contains 1,911 pieces and recreates the original PlayStation console and controller at near 1:1 scale. The build includes a functioning spring-loaded lid on the front-right of the console that opens to reveal interior dioramas celebrating PlayStation's early library. Inside, builders will find a large Lego recreation of the classic "PS" logo alongside miniature scenes inspired by 1997's Gran Turismo and 1999's Ape Escape.
The finished model measures approximately 2.5 inches high, 10.5 inches wide, and 7.5 inches deep. It carries a recommended retail price of $179.99 in the United States, with pricing set at £139.99 in the UK and €159.99 in Europe. The set is rated for ages 18 and up.
This PlayStation set joins Lego's existing lineup of gaming console recreations, which previously included the Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis. The PlayStation build falls between the Atari 2600 at 2,532 pieces and the Sega Genesis at 480 pieces, making it more substantial than the Genesis but smaller than both the NES and Atari sets.
