Konami is already plotting the next chapter of the Silent Hill franchise, with producer Motoi Okamoto confirming the company is examining "a number of projects" that will follow its first wave of new releases. Speaking to Famitsu, Okamoto outlined plans for "second and third waves" of Silent Hill games, suggesting the publisher's revival of the horror series will extend well beyond its current lineup.
Okamoto expressed relief that all three initially announced titles managed to launch successfully and were well-received by audiences. He stressed that completing this first wave was only the beginning, and that Konami needed to maintain momentum with additional releases. The producer emphasized the importance of thinking beyond a single remake, noting that releasing only one new game could have given the impression that development might be cancelled again—a concern rooted in the franchise's long dormancy before its 2022 revival.
Convincing the company to commit
Okamoto revealed it took considerable effort to persuade Konami's leadership that one remake was insufficient for the franchise's resurgence. As a producer, he felt obligated to ensure the series did not end with a single release. This conviction appears to have paid off, as the company has now greenlit multiple projects across different gameplay styles and narrative approaches.
The first wave's success
The current slate includes Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill Ascension, and the film Return to Silent Hill. Additionally, Silent Hill: The Short Message was released as a surprise launch. Silent Hill: Townfall is now available, having received critical acclaim for its blend of psychological horror and experimental design. The franchise's revival strategy has centered on maintaining a strong psychological horror narrative while allowing gameplay to vary significantly between titles.
Okamoto previously explained that as long as the core narrative identity remains intact, the series has room to experiment with different gameplay styles. This philosophy has resulted in distinctly different experiences across the recent releases, from the remake's survival horror roots to the more experimental approaches taken by other entries.
Future expansion
Beyond the current projects, Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, is developing a remake of the original Silent Hill. Konami announced this project in June 2025, signaling continued investment in reimagining classic entries alongside new original titles. With multiple waves of games in development and the franchise's successful return to prominence, Silent Hill appears positioned for sustained presence in the gaming landscape.
