Developer 2dchaos has revealed NECHROMIA, an upcoming retro-inspired survival horror title featuring a striking visual design and unconventional mechanics. Set within a surreal castle constructed from another entity's memories, the title departs from standard PS1-era horror tropes by utilizing a high-contrast aesthetic restricted to black, white, red, blue, and yellow, alongside heavy chromatic aberration effects.
In NECHROMIA, players control an unnamed young woman whose primary tool and weapon is a lantern. This light source serves multiple functions across exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. Rather than relying on traditional firearms, players use the lantern to emit bright flashes of light that temporarily blind aggressive entities. Gameplay showcases also indicate that the light can be used to expose hidden items scattered throughout the environment.
The game draws mechanical inspiration from classic titles such as Parasite Eve. Additional features outlined by the developer include entering paintings themed around sin and grief, manipulating time, and sacrificing character sanity to restore health points.
NECHROMIA is currently in early development with no finalized release date, but the game is available to wishlist on Steam.
