Valve's team-based shooter Deadlock has reached a new all-time peak of 228,086 concurrent players on Steam, shattering its previous record by more than 56,000 players. The surge follows the release of the City Never Sleeps update, one of the game's most substantial patches to date.
The prior record stood at 171,490 concurrent players, set earlier in 2024 when the game was in invite-only testing. The new milestone reflects growing momentum for the title, which remains in active development rather than a traditional full release.
The City Never Sleeps update introduces significant new content and improvements. Six fresh heroes have been added to the roster: Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon, Deadman Danny, Baba, and Violet. The patch also includes a comprehensive overhaul of the game's map, with four new districts now available alongside revised visuals and redesigned neutral enemy encounters. Additional objectives and locations have been scattered throughout the city to expand gameplay variety.

Beyond new heroes and map changes, the update addresses quality-of-life concerns with improvements to the heads-up display and other interface refinements. These adjustments aim to streamline the player experience as the game continues its testing phase.
Deadlock remains accessible only through the invite system, with players able to extend invitations to friends rather than the game being openly available. Despite this limited access model, the game has cultivated a dedicated community that continues to grow with each major content drop. The player count surge demonstrates sustained interest in Valve's competitive shooter as development progresses.
