Graveyard Keeper 2's autopsy system becomes more complex once you gain access to advanced organs, introducing a mechanic called Tick Chance that determines your success rate during extraction.
Tick Chance represents the probability of achieving a successful tick when your Mastery level falls below what an organ requires. The game calculates this by dividing your current Mastery by the required Mastery level. If an organ needs 2 Mastery and you only have 1, your Tick Chance becomes 50% — meaning each tick has a one-in-two chance of succeeding.

This system creates meaningful risk during autopsy procedures. When extracting organs like the Skull or Heart with a low Tick Chance, you have very little room for error. Failed ticks appear in red, and accumulating two or more red ticks ruins the organ permanently, resulting in a Surgeon's Error. This penalty removes one white skull and one red skull from the corpse's overall skull rating, and the body becomes unusable for creating zombies.
The Tick Chance mechanic extends beyond autopsies into the game's farming system. If you attempt to cultivate a seed that requires 10 Farming Mastery but you only possess 6, each farming tick has a 60% success rate. This consistent approach to skill-based activities means players must carefully manage their Mastery levels across different disciplines to minimize failure rates.
Understanding how Tick Chance works is essential for efficient corpse processing and resource management. Investing in Mastery upgrades before attempting high-level organs reduces the risk of permanent damage and wasted bodies.
