Video game developer Rebel Wolves has officially confirmed that its highly anticipated upcoming title, The Blood of Dawnwalker, will feature a dedicated 60 FPS Performance Mode on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X on release day via a launch patch.
The confirmation came alongside comprehensive details regarding the various graphical options available across current-generation consoles. Players utilizing PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X hardware will have access to three distinct display profiles: a Performance Mode targeting 60 frames per second, a Balanced Mode aimed at 40 FPS, and a Quality Mode capped at 30 FPS. Furthermore, the PlayStation 5 Pro release will feature additional visual enhancements, whereas the less powerful Xbox Series S will be restricted to a single 30 FPS performance target.
Communicating directly with players on the social media platform X, the development team clarified that the high-framerate mode was already under active development prior to the public post. Developers explained that the feature had been kept quiet during internal testing because the team wanted to avoid making commitments to the audience before verifying that performance benchmarks were fully met.
The studio's clarification was prompted by significant criticism from the gaming community following a recent gameplay demonstration. During that preview, which was recorded on a PlayStation 5 Pro, viewers were only shown the 30 FPS Quality and 40 FPS Balanced modes, with no mention of a 60 FPS option. This omission triggered the first major wave of pushback the game had experienced since its initial announcement in January 2025.
Many gamers voiced dissatisfaction with the absence of a 60 FPS option, pointing out that other major titles, including Marvel's Wolverine, offer 60 FPS gameplay on standard PS5 hardware. Players also pointed to the previously released PC system specifications for The Blood of Dawnwalker, which indicated that the game could run at 60 FPS on Ultra settings, leaving console users questioning why they were not receiving comparable framerate options.
Following Rebel Wolves' swift response and commitment to delivering the day-one update, community sentiment shifted positively, with fans praising the studio for its transparent communication and willingness to address player concerns. The Blood of Dawnwalker remains on track for its official launch on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
