An independent game studio has turned recent Grand Theft Auto 6 video leaks into a clever publicity campaign for its upcoming project.
Developed by Green Cat Games, Leafborn is a fast-paced action-adventure title in which players control a living pile of leaves in humanoid form. The gameplay revolves around traversing floating islands, engaging in combat, and unlocking fresh abilities along the way.
The unexpected marketing effort emerged following a spate of unauthorized Grand Theft Auto 6 footage distributed across online platforms. Nearly a dozen videos were uploaded by an entity known as CyberLeeks, who placed heavy watermarks, custom branding, and website links across the clips.
Spotting an opportunity, the creators of Leafborn crafted promotional assets that mirror the distinct layout of the leaked media. Their parody features the leafy main character framed by text urging players to wishlist the game on Steam, complete with a functional QR code pointing to the title's official site.
To complete the homage, the image also incorporated a spoof disclaimer regarding social media accounts, copying the exact wording used in the CyberLeeks watermarks.
By piggybacking on one of the gaming industry's most talked-about security breaches, the indie studio managed to capture widespread interest. While confidential media leaks continue to frustrate major companies like Rockstar Games, smaller developers are demonstrating how internet trends can be redirected to boost indie discoverability.
