CD Projekt Red has shared an updated timeline for its next major role-playing title, establishing a target launch window of 2028 for the upcoming chapter in The Witcher franchise.
During a recent development update, joint chief executive Michał Nowakowski characterized the title as the studio's most expansive and daring project to date. Acknowledging the extended timeframe, Nowakowski urged fans to remain patient while the team completes work on the title, assuring players that the extra production time will yield strong results.
The project currently engages a development force exceeding 500 staff members. Designed to inaugurate a new narrative saga, the title will feature Ciri in the central protagonist role. The studio promises a vast open-world environment, refined combat mechanics, and a heavy emphasis on narrative choice.
In addition to the main line sequel, CD Projekt Red is preparing to showcase Songs of the Past, a new expansion created for The Witcher 3. Scheduled for its first public demonstration at Gamescom, the expansion stars Geralt of Rivia and will introduce a new region along with a dark story arc. Production scale for the downloadable content is reportedly comparable to that of the base game, with the developer also teasing additional reveals planned for the industry event.
