Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco have released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming open-world dark fantasy RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, ahead of its scheduled release on September 3, 2026.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, the action-adventure title introduces players to a gritty, atmospheric landscape set in Vale Sangora, a fictional territory situated in 14th-century Europe's Carpathian Mountains. The narrative follows Coen, a young protagonist turned into a Dawnwalker—a supernatural hybrid caught between mankind and the undead. Coen functions as a regular human during the day but gains vampire abilities once night falls. Players will be able to freely explore dense forests, forgotten shrines, and ancient ruins scattered across the region.
Alongside the fresh footage showcasing the game's visceral combat and narrative beats, the developers delivered significant news regarding technical performance on consoles. Previous video showcases displayed frame rates lingering between 30 and 40 frames per second, causing concern among some prospective players. To resolve this, Rebel Wolves announced on August 24 that a day-one update will introduce a dedicated performance mode targeting 60 frames per second at launch, along with standard fidelity modes focused on maximum graphical detail.
The announcement arrives as the team prepares to demo the title at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, held from August 27 through August 30. Visitors attending the trade show can test the game at the studio's booth in Hall 6.1. Game Director and studio co-founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz stated that the development team is counting down to launch, eager for the public to experience Vale Sangora and confront the antagonist Brencis alongside his vampire clique.
Founded by industry veterans behind The Witcher 3, Rebel Wolves aims to deliver a distinct identity with its debut project. The Blood of Dawnwalker has officially received an ESRB Mature 17+ rating for strong language, intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and nudity ahead of its September debut.
