The Blood of Dawnwalker is receiving a substantial update next week that introduces new accessibility features, quality-of-life improvements, and more than 1,100 bug fixes and refinements. The patch, version 1.1, brings meaningful changes to difficulty options, character progression, and several core gameplay systems that players have engaged with since the game's early access launch in September.
Difficulty and Story Mode Overhaul
The update restructures how players experience the game's narrative difficulty. The previous Story mode will be rebranded as Forgiving difficulty, while a completely new Story mode will launch alongside it with enhanced combat assistance. This dual-option approach gives players more granular control over how challenging they want their experience to be, catering to those seeking a more relaxed adventure through the dark fantasy world.
Ability Respecification and Character Building
A new consumable item called the Draught of Mind Rebirth will allow players to reset their character progression. When consumed, it wipes all learned abilities across Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism skill trees, freeing up the time investment players made in those abilities so they can be redirected toward a completely different build. This addresses a common request in games with extensive ability systems, enabling experimentation without permanent consequences.
Quality-of-Life Additions
Beyond mechanical changes, the patch includes a lighter feature: the ability to pet dogs and cats encountered in the world. The developers described this whimsically as directional animal petting, combining the game's combat-focused directional systems with a moment of respite. Subtitle options have also been expanded, allowing players to increase font size and enable captions for all dialogue lines, improving accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing players.
Combat and Movement Refinements
Several core gameplay systems receive targeted improvements. Combat targeting has been refined, with adjustments to how players lock onto enemies and disengage from combat. Camera animations and movements during fights have been adjusted for better clarity and responsiveness. Traversal abilities like Shadowstep and Planeshift now respond more reliably when targeting surfaces and attaching to them, reducing frustration during platforming sequences.
Technical Enhancements
The patch includes an update to FrameGen technology with dedicated settings, addressing performance optimization for players with compatible hardware. The Japanese version of the game on Steam will no longer censor blood and gore effects, aligning it with other regional versions. Beyond these headline features, the developers have implemented over 1,100 additional improvements and fixes addressing issues discovered during early access.
The Blood of Dawnwalker launched in early access in September to positive reception, earning four stars for its bold time-limiting structure and freeform design. Update 1.1 is scheduled to deploy next week across all supported platforms.
